If we have data related to any problem it becomes easy to find solution to that problem. This also helps in identifying the problem accurately. Road accident cases are increasing rapidly in the country, but do we have any accurate data that can help us get to the bottom of this problem? such as-
- Are there certain areas where road accidents are more frequent?
- Are there more accidents on a certain type of road?
- Are there more road accidents at a particular time?
If we know that these causes are responsible for road accidents, then those causes can be identified and corrected. To find out the answers to these questions, the central government is preparing to bring a road safety audit.
So, today'In 'Work News' We will talk about what is road safety audit? You can learn that too
- How will a road safety audit work?
- How can this reduce road accidents?
Q- What is Road Safety Audit? Answer- A road safety audit is an attempt to identify where more road accidents are occurring, at what times and for what reasons. Audit will remove such black spots where accident risk is high.
Q- How will road safety audit work? Answer- The central government will take help of Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) students to reduce road accidents. Students will conduct road safety audits of expressways and national highways and give suggestions. Along with this, efforts will be made to identify the blind spots and black spots on the roads and remove them.
Blind spots are points where the visibility of oncoming vehicles is reduced. Black spots are the points where most accidents happen. Union Road and Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari has expressed hope that road safety audits will reduce road accidents.
Question- How many people suffer road accidents every year due to violation of traffic rules? Answer- At the recently held World Conference on Injury Prevention and Safety Promotion (Safety, 2024) in New Delhi, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari said that more people lose their lives in road accidents than war, extremism and Naxalism in India. According to government statistics, in the year 2022, more than four and a half lakh people fell victim to road accidents across the country, in which more than one and a half lakh people died.
Question- What are the causes of most of the road accidents in the country?
Answer: The number of road accidents in the country has increased rapidly in the last few years. The biggest reason for this is lack of awareness among people about traffic rules.
Statistics show that 70% of road accident deaths in the country in 2022 were due to speeding. Apart from this, thousands of people have lost their lives due to drunk driving and using mobile phones while driving.
Question: On which roads do drivers need to be most careful?
Answer- Most of the road accidents in the country occur on National Highways. In fact, driving on National Highways is completely different from driving on other roads. Generally there are total 6 lanes on both sides of the highway.
- On the left is a lane for slow moving vehicles like trucks, buses, containers.
- Middle lane is for high speed vehicles.
- The third i.e. the right lane is for overtaking. After overtaking, drivers return to the middle lane.
Most of the accidents on National Highways are due to lack of awareness of one's lane. In most road accidents, it has been observed that young drivers drive into the second or third lane as soon as they reach the highway, due to which they cannot estimate the speed of the vehicle coming from behind.
Q- Where are the most road accidents in the country? Answer- According to government data, about 75% of road accidents occur in Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Rajasthan and Bihar. These states have proved to be the most dangerous in terms of road accidents from 2018 to 2022. However, Uttar Pradesh has seen the highest number of deaths in these accidents.
