Urban consumers' mood to shop this festive season is at a 5-year high. It rose 2.9% to 106 in September. This is the highest level in five years since Covid-19. Never in all these years has the mood of urban consumers been so positive. Based on this, it is estimated that this festive season, urban consumers will head out to the market to shop with full enthusiasm. This has been revealed in a recent survey by the Center for Monitoring Indian Economy (CMIE). Earlier, rural consumers contributed more to keeping the country's consumer mood positive for the past 6 months. According to the report, the number of salaried urbanites increased by 3.8% in September 2024. This is a big reason to stay in a positive mood. The level of positivity has declined in the non-salaried section such as the self-employed. From this it is clear that the salaried people are usually in the cities. So, its effect is visible in the mood there. In contrast, the mood of rural consumers has turned negative. There was a 2.6% decline in villagers' positivity about the current economic situation. According to the report, the salaried class believes that their economic condition has improved this time compared to last year. The number of people who were negative about the situation fell to 6.4% from 7.8% in August. 31% of consumers believe that this is the best time to buy a TV-Fridge Consumers believe that this is the best time to buy goods such as TVs, fridges and ACs. The number of those who believe this has increased to 29.8% in September, which was 28.2% in August. In salaried employees, this number has increased to 2.9% in September, if it was 30.2% in August. { The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) survey also said that there is tremendous positivity in the consumer mood. This September survey was conducted among people in 21 cities of the country including Bhopal, Jaipur, Raipur, Patna and Ranchi. { In this survey the current economic situation was assessed on 5 criteria. These included – current economic conditions, employment, prices, income and expenditure. In all this the consumer mood has improved a lot compared to July-2024. The economic condition is good… Those who believe so have increased by 5%
