Sharmila Tagore argued in court that Sarwar's mother, Abida Sultan, had migrated to Pakistan after the 1947 partition and that the Nawab of Bhopal had died in India, so she had no claim to Indian property based on Shariat.
After this, in the year 2019, the court ruled that Saif's grandmother Sajida Sultan is the legal heir to the Bhopal property. Saif's elder sister, Saba Ali, is the principal trustee of the Auqaf-e-Shahi Trust, which settles these disputes. For this he comes to Bhopal from time to time and attends the meetings of the Trust.
