New Zealand squad announced for ICC Champions Trophy: Santner to captain; Williamson returned to the ODI team after a year

Under the captaincy of Mitchell Santner, the New Zealand team won the T20 and ODI series against Sri Lanka this month.

The New Zealand Cricket Team has announced its 15-member squad for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. Spin all-rounder Mitchell Santner will captain the New Zealand team in the Champions Trophy. Former captain and veteran batsman Kane Williamson has also found a place in the squad.

Williamson has returned to the ODI team after 14 months. He played his last ODI match for his country in the semi-final of the ODI World Cup-2023 held in November.

The ICC Champions Trophy will start from February 19. New Zealand will play their first match against Pakistan on February 19. The tournament will start with this match.

The New Zealand team will enter the field with a superb bowling unit Bowlers like Matt Henry, Lockie Ferguson, Nathan Smith, Ben Sears and William O'Rourke have been included in the New Zealand cricket team for the Champions Trophy. Ben Sears, who was a reserve player during the T20 World Cup 2024 last year, is returning to international cricket after a knee injury.

In Group-A, New Zealand, India are also in this group New Zealand are in Group-A. India is also in this group. India will play all its matches in Dubai. The semi-final will also be played in Dubai itself. If India reaches the final, this match will also be held in Dubai. While the remaining 10 matches of the tournament will be held in Pakistan. The Champions Trophy is going to be held after 8 years, the last time in 2017 when Pakistan beat India in the final to win the title. In the second group are Australia, England, South Africa and Afghanistan. Two semi-finals will be played on March 4 and 5, while the final will be played on March 9.
