The government has announced an 80% subsidy on infrastructure required to set up public fast charging stations for charging electric vehicles. In some special cases this subsidy can be given up to 100%. The government will spend Rs 10,900 crore on this scheme in two years. The state governments will designate a nodal agency for setting up charging stations.
72,300 charging stations will be built across the country. These proposed public fast charging stations include 48,400 for electric two-wheelers and three-wheelers and 22,100 for four-wheelers. Besides cars, it includes light commercial vehicles and ambulances. There will also be 1,800 chargers for electric buses and trucks.
Cities selected for the scheme include tier-2 and tier-3 cities like Bhopal, Indore, Raipur, Jaipur, Patna and Udaipur, besides major cities like Delhi, Mumbai and Bengaluru.

Public charging stations will be of this type At least one electric 4-wheeler with a 60 kW fast charger and at least two electric two- and three-wheeler chargers of 12 kW are required. This will require at least 40 to 60 square meters of space. In this, parking space should be created for two cars and four two-wheelers or three-wheelers.
A list of 40 cities has been prepared according to electric 4-wheelers The government has identified 40 cities based on the number of electric 4-wheelers for e-charging infrastructure. Delhi tops the list, while Jodhpur and Udaipur are at the bottom. Apart from this, 131 cities under the National Clean Air Program (NCP) have also been kept in this list. The number of electric vehicles in these cities will be the main basis for setting up EV charging stations.
Additionally, 40 highway corridors for electric buses and 20 highway corridors for electric trucks have been prioritized for installation of charging infrastructure.
