PM Modi's letter to retired Ashwin: Played even when mother was in hospital, says Modi – No 99 jersey will be missed

Ravichandran Ashwin announced his retirement after the GABA Test on 18 December.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has written a letter to former cricketer Ravichandran Ashwin. Through this letter, the PM also wished Ashwin for his future.

Modi wrote in the letter – At a time when everyone expected more off-breaks, you bowled a carrom ball that shocked everyone. People will miss jersey number 99.

Ashwin announced his retirement from all formats of international cricket after the Gabba Test on 18 December.

On December 19, R Ashwin reached Chennai from Australia.

1. Sanyas: Was hoping for an off break, shocked by the carrom ball On Ashwin's sudden retirement, PM Modi said- Your retirement has shocked the fans of India as well as the world cricket fans. We all were waiting for more off breaks from you and you surprised everyone by throwing the carrom ball. Making this decision must not be easy for you. Especially when you were performing well for India.

2. India-Pakistan match: Your shot got a lot of applause Modi wrote – You will be known for good understanding. Your shot on the last ball against Pakistan in the 2022 T20 World Cup got a lot of applause. The way you dropped the ball. Letting it be a wide ball shows your wisdom.

3. Mother's Illness: Played even after mother's illness The Prime Minister also remembered Ashwin's renunciation and sacrifice. He wrote – We all remember the moment when your mother was admitted to the hospital and you returned to the field. Also when there was flood situation in Chennai and you couldn't contact your family. The way you played against South Africa shows your commitment to the game.

He took 5 wickets in his debut test. Achievements like ODI World Cup-2011, Champions Trophy-2013 and ICC Cricketer of the Year made you an important player of the Indian team.

People will always miss jersey number 99. Cricket fans will always remember the moment you stepped on the cricket field.

5. Sydney Test innings: Gave memorable moments to the country Modi wrote- Your match saving innings in Sydney Test in 2021 gave memorable moments to the country. People remember you for many matches. The way you showed your presence of mind by leaving the ball in the T20 match against Pakistan in 2022. It was amazing and your winning shot has etched that match in our memories.

International Cricket Career of Ravichandran Ashwin Ravichandran Ashwin managed to play a total of 287 matches for the country between 2010 and 2024. During this time he got 765 success in 379 innings. For the country, he managed to take 537 wickets in Test cricket, 156 in ODIs and 72 in T20s. Apart from this, he scored 4394 runs in 233 innings while batting.
