In another interview, Shatrughan Sinha said that even after deciding to marry Poonam, he was very hesitant and sometimes even thought of staying a bachelor. He told Stardust magazine, 'That was when I was most scared. I was a happy bachelor, but there came a time when I had to make this decision. Till the last moment I was thinking of withdrawing from the marriage. The wedding was taking place in Mumbai and I was in London. I caught the last flight, at that time Poonam was very upset, she thought I was running away from marriage. Poonam always treated me well. If there is any fault in this marriage, it is mine, not his.
Shatru married actress Poonam on July 9, 1980. This was the time when Shatrughan's name was being associated with Rina Rai. In an interview he said that his relationship with Reena lasted for 7 years. During this period the two worked together in several films and their pairing was also well liked.
When Sonakshi made her debut with 'Dabangg', her look was much talked about and she was paired with Reena Roy. It is said that Sonakshi's look resembles Shatrughan's ex-girlfriend Reena Roy. Not only this, when the news of his resemblance to Sonakshi reached the ears of Reena Roy, who lives with her daughter Sanam after her separation from her ex-husband and Pakistani cricketer Mohsin Khan, she denied the news through a press conference. Reena said that Sonakshi's face resembles that of her mother Poonam Sinha.
