Civil war erupts in Syria: President Assad flees the country? Rebels stormed into the capital Damascus, capturing 4 major cities

Rebel terrorists have entered the capital Damascus amid the ongoing conflict between rebel groups and the army in Syria for the past 11 days. According to a CNN report, rebels have captured four major cities in Syria in the past week. It includes the cities of Aleppo, Hama, Homs and Daraa.

Several media reports are claiming that President Bashar al-Assad and his family have fled the country and taken refuge in Russia due to fear of insurgents. However, the Syrian government has denied reports that Assad has fled the country. 3.70 lakh people have been displaced so far due to the conflict.

Rebel fighters have entered the capital Damascus from the city of Daraa, which they captured on December 6. Daraa is the city where the uprising against President Bashar al-Assad began in 2011. The distance from Daraa to the capital Damascus is about 100 km. Local rebels have taken over here. At the same time, Aleppo and Hama are under the control of the Islamic extremist group Hayat Tahrir al-Sham.

Obama and Russia responsible for the situation: Trump

Newly elected US President Donald Trump has blamed former President Barack Obama's policies for instability in Syria. He also held Russia responsible for this. “This is not our fight,” Trump said. America should not get into this conflict. Syria is not America's friend.

Advisory issued for Indian citizens

Apart from this, Indians have also been banned from going to Syria. The Ministry of External Affairs said that Indians living in Syria should get in touch with the Indian Embassy in Damascus.

Understand in 3 points…what will be the effect of combustion…

1. Battle for Supremacy:

Professor Mona Yacoubian of the US Institute of Peace says this is a battle for supremacy in West Asia. Syria is geographically important. It shares borders with countries like Iraq, Turkey, Jordan, Lebanon and Israel. Control over Syria provides important trade routes, energy corridors and a base for exerting influence throughout the region.

2. Big impact on Russia:

The uprising will have a major impact on Russia. Syria is its most reliable partner in West Asia. In addition, since the uprising against Bashar in 2011, Russia has been providing all kinds of military, economic and strategic support to Bashar. This is why Russia wants Bashar to stay in power. The rebels also have American support. In such a situation, if Bashar goes, it will be a big loss for Russia.

3. Oil can become expensive:

Relations between India and Syria are historic. If the insurgency is not stopped, the price of crude oil will rise. It will affect India. At the same time, recently the two countries have been working together on power and solar plant projects. India has announced an aid of $280 million in 2022 for this. These projects will be affected if the insurgency escalates. Bashar visited India in 2008.

Clashes began in Syria on November 27 between the army and rebel groups

Clashes broke out in Syria on November 27 between the army and the Syrian rebel group Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS). Later on 1 December, rebels captured the northern city of Aleppo. Four days later, rebel groups also captured another major city, Hama. The rebels have besieged the capital Damascus from two directions after capturing the southern city of Daraa. President Assad left Iran According to the New York Times, Iran began evacuating its military commanders, members of the Revolutionary Guard, diplomatic staff and their families from Syria on Friday. The report cites Iranian officials as saying that Iran is unable to support the Assad government as before.

Special personnel living in Damascus are being flown to Tehran, the official said. While the rest are going by land to Latakia port from where they will reach Iran. Mehdi Rahmati, an expert on Iranian affairs, told the NYT that Iran has begun evacuating its officers and security personnel because they feel the Syrian army will not be able to fight the rebels.

Iranian parliament member Ahmed Naderi has expressed his displeasure on social media. He said that Syria is on the verge of collapse and we are watching all this calmly. If Damascus falls, Iran will lose its influence in Iraq and Lebanon. I don't understand why our government is silent on this. This is not good for our country.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi visited Damascus this week. In the meantime, he promised to protect Syria. However, he made a different statement in Baghdad on Friday. He said – we cannot tell the future. Whatever Allah wills will happen.

Assad is not getting full help from Russia either

Russian President Putin has given Assad military and political support, but Russia has no intention of protecting Assad in this crisis. Initially the Russian Air Force fought the rebels in Aleppo, but this help is dwindling. Meanwhile, the Russian Embassy in Damascus has advised its citizens to leave the country.

A Bloomberg report quoted the Kremlin as saying that Russia does not have a solution to the Syria crisis. For years, Syrian President Assad had depended on Russia and Iran to quell the rebellion, but that has changed.

Both Russia and Iran are mired in their own problems. Sources say that Asad is alone for the first time. Russia has stopped caring about President Assad.

HTS became the largest organization in Syria

HTS has previously been linked to Al Qaeda. The Sunni group HTS is led by Abu Mohammad al-Julani. Julani has long been a threat to Syria's al-Assad government.

According to reports, Al-Julani was born in 1982 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. His father was a petroleum engineer there. In 1989, Julani's family returned to Syria and settled near Damascus.

After the US invasion of Iraq in 2003, Julani dropped out of medical studies and joined al-Qaeda. He was close to Abu Musab al-Zarqawi in Al Qaeda. After Zarqawi's assassination in 2006, Julani spent time in Lebanon and Iraq.

Little is known about Julani before he joined Al Qaeda in 2003.

In 2006, Julani was arrested by the US Army in Iraq. He was released after 5 years in prison. After this he joined the Islamic State. Syria arrived in July 2011 amid protests against Assad. After this he formed Jabhat al-Nusra and waged war against the Assad government.

In 2017, al-Nusra formed Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) along with several other terrorist groups. HTS is now the most powerful rebel group in Syria. The group captured Idlib before capturing Aleppo and Hama. According to reports, there are 30 thousand fighters behind this organization. America included this organization in the terrorist list in 2018.

Will the Assad regime end?

Ibrahim al-Asil, a senior fellow at the Middle East Institute in Washington, DC, said the real fighting between Assad's forces and the rebel group has yet to begin. Assad is working on an old strategy, which has worked for him in the past. Retreat first, regroup, reinforce and then counterattack.

If the rebels are to win, they must know when to stop. Assad may also use chemical weapons to stop these rebels.

Civil war started in 2011 in Syria

The civil war in Syria started in 2011 with the Arab Spring. The people of Syria started protesting against the Bashar al-Assad government that has been in power for 10 years. After this, a rebel group called 'Free Syrian Army' was formed.

With the formation of a rebel group, a civil war broke out in Syria. The conflict escalated after America, Russia, Iran and Saudi Arabia joined. Meanwhile, the terrorist organization ISIS also spread its wings in Syria.

Since the 2020 ceasefire agreement, there have been only sporadic clashes here. According to a United Nations report, more than 3 lakh people were killed in the decade-long civil war. Apart from this, millions of people had to be displaced.
