Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday said that the previous governments did not focus on the development of the Northeast because the Northeast had fewer votes and fewer seats. During Atalji's government, a separate Ministry for North-East Development was created.
He said that Union ministers have made 700 visits to the Northeast in the last decade. We are connecting the North-East with the triad of emotion, economy and ecology. During the last 10 years, we have tried to bridge the gap between Delhi and the heartland along the North-East.
PM Modi said this while inaugurating the three-day 'Ashtalakshmi Mohotsav' organized at Pragati Maidan in Delhi. The program will showcase the cultural heritage of the North Eastern states.
PM said, 'Ashtalakshmi Mohotsav' is a first and unique event of its kind. Today, with the doors of investment opening up in the Northeast on such a large scale, this is a huge opportunity for the farmers, artisans and artisans of the Northeast as well as investors from around the world.
3 main points of PM Modi's address…
- We have seen the emergence of big cities like Bangalore, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, Delhi, Chennai. In coming decades we will see the power of cities like Agartala, Guwahati, Gangtok, Aizawl, Shillong, Itanagar, Kohima. Events like Ashtalakshmi will play a big role in this.
- Many historic peace agreements have been signed in the North East. Border disputes between states have also progressed in a very amicable manner. Cases of violence have reduced in the Northeast. AFSPA has been removed from many districts. Together we have to write a new future for Ashtalakshmi, for this the government is taking every step.
- North-East India has many natural resources. The Northeast has an amazing confluence of minerals, oil and biodiversity. Renewable energy has immense potential here. Northeast is famous for natural farming and millets. We are proud that Sikkim is the first state to adopt organic farming.
What is Ashtalakshmi festival? Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Manipur, Nagaland, Mizoram, Tripura and Sikkim are the states which are called 'Ashtalakshmi' or 8 forms of prosperity. They make important contributions to the cultural, social and economic system of India.
The Ashtalakshmi festival is envisioned to promote economic opportunities in areas such as traditional handicrafts, handicrafts, agricultural products and tourism in the Northeast. Various programs will be held in this three-day festival. There will also be artisan exhibitions, rural haats, state-specific pavilions and technical sessions on key areas for the development of the North Eastern region.
