Hunter Biden was scheduled to be sentenced this month for tax evasion and illegal gun purchases.
US President Joe Biden has pardoned his son Hunter Biden. According to the New York Times, it was a case of illegal gun possession and tax evasion.
Biden released a statement saying-
From the day I took office, I have said that I will not interfere with the decisions of the Department of Justice. I kept this promise but I saw that my son was being targeted and treated wrongly.
Biden said he has full faith in law and order but politics has tainted it. This is a failure of the judiciary. President Biden said that any sane person looking at Hunter's case would know that he was targeted only because he is my son.
Trump said- This is a Miscarriage of Justice
In this matter, Donald Trump has targeted Biden and called it abuse of power. Newly elected US President Trump asked if the pardon given by Biden to his son Hunter. Does that include J-6 prisoners? Those who have been in jail for years. What an abuse of justice!
The President said that some people tried to break him on the Hunter issue. Still this did not stop, so he had to exercise his authority. Biden said that the American people will understand why the father and the president made this decision.
Hunter was convicted on August 21 of purchasing a firearm with concealment of information. After this, Hunter Biden is coming out of the court.
What about buying a gun illegally?
Hunter withheld information when purchasing the gun in October 2018. Hunter did not disclose that he was addicted to drugs. According to the law, a drug addict cannot own a gun. In June 2024, Hunter was convicted of illegal gun possession.
Hunter was scheduled to be sentenced Dec. 4 in a Delaware court. He could have faced a maximum sentence of 25 years in prison in the case, but according to legal experts he was going to serve 12 to 16 months.
Just 2 days before the sentencing, father Biden used his presidential powers to protect his son. Before Hunter was convicted in June, Biden said he would never forgive his son if he was convicted.
What is Hunter's tax evasion case?
In September 2024, he pleaded guilty to 9 cases of tax evasion. Willfully not paying tax on time between 2016-2019. In these 4 years, 14 lakh dollars (11.84 crore) was evaded. These dollars were used for drugs, sex workers and entertainment.
After pleading guilty, Hunter faces a maximum sentence of 15 years in prison. He was scheduled to be sentenced on December 16 in California and may have to pay a fine of around Rs 11 crore. But 14 days before the sentence, the US President pardoned the son.
After receiving an apology from the President's father, Hunter Biden wrote on social media-
I have accepted my mistakes and taken responsibility for them. Due to which my family had to be publicly humiliated and embarrassed. I will never take this apology lightly.
