The court on Friday rejected the CBI's charge sheet in the RG Kar Hospital corruption case. The special CBI court did not accept the charge sheet due to lack of necessary approval to file the charge sheet against the state government employee. The investigating agency has made former principal Dr. Sandeep Ghosh the main accused in the case.
The 100-page chargesheet also includes the names of four other arrested accused — Biplab Singh, Afsar Ali, Suman Hazra and Ashish Pandey, an official said. The CBI has also collected nearly a thousand pages of documents related to the investigation.
During the much-publicized Kolkata rape-murder case, the principal of the medical college and hospital, Dr. Sandeep Ghosh was accused of financial irregularities. He was accused of rigging the tender for purchasing medical equipment for the hospital. He also helped his close people in getting the tender.
On August 23, 2024, the High Court handed over the investigation of the case from the SIT constituted by the state government to the CBI. The court ordered the former deputy superintendent of the hospital, Dr. Akhtar was given on the application of Ali.
Ali had applied for an ED probe into the corruption case at the hospital. In the petition, Ali accused Ghosh of illegal sale of unclaimed dead bodies, smuggling of biomedical waste and taking commission for passing tenders for supply of medicine and medical equipment.
CBI detained Ghosh on August 16. A case of financial irregularities was registered against Ghosh on August 24 following the order of the High Court.
CBI investigation reveals- Ghosh ordered the renovation the day after the incident
The CBI investigation revealed that the day after the rape-murder of the trainee doctor (August 10, 2024), Sandeep Ghosh ordered the renovation of a room adjacent to the seminar hall. The body of the trainee doctor was found in the seminar hall of the medical college on the morning of August 9.
The CBI found documents which confirmed that Ghosh had written to the state Public Works Department (PWD) on August 10 to renovate the cameras and toilets attached to the seminar hall. This permission letter is also signed by Ghosh.
The PWD staff started renovating the room adjacent to the seminar hall. However, students of the college started protesting this, due to which the renovation work was stopped.
Investigating officials say the renovation letter shows that Ghosh was in a hurry to get the job done, so the document could help link the rape-murder case and the financial irregularities case at RG Kar College.
