With all-rounder Mitchell Marsh not fully fit, Australia has included Tasmanian all-rounder Beau Webster in the squad. Webster can bat with spin and medium pace bowling.
The 30-year-old Webster said, 'It felt good to get some runs and wickets (for Australia-A) against a strong Indian team. Whenever you play for the 'A' team, it's a level below Tests. It was a proud moment for me to get a call from 'Bales' (men's selection committee chairman George Bailey) after the match against New South Wales (NSW). I am looking forward to joining the team.'
Webster scored 145 not out twice in four innings of the unofficial Test against India-A. He also took seven wickets. Not only this, he scored 61 and 49 against New South Wales in the Sheffield Shield in Sydney and also took 5 wickets.
Mitchell Marsh was in pain after the Perth Test Webster has been selected in the Australian squad to replace all-rounder Mitchell Marsh. Marsh had muscle cramps after the Perth Test. Australian head coach Andrew Macdonald said on Marsh's injury – 'Marsh's fitness is in some doubt.' Australian captain Pat Cummins also expressed concern about Marsh's fitness.
If Marsh cannot recover in time for the Adelaide game after bowling more than ten overs in the Perth Test, Webster will have the chance to become Australia's 468th men's Test cricketer.
