International Criminal Court (ICC) chief prosecutor Karim Khan has appealed for the issuance of an arrest warrant against Myanmar's military leader Min Aung Hlaing. Min Aung is accused of violence against the Rohingya Muslim minority, atrocities and crimes against humanity. Due to which millions of Rohingyas were forced to flee to Bangladesh.
Karim Khan described the violence against the Rohingya as ethnic cleansing. This includes mass murder, rape and the destruction of settlements. He soon announced an appeal for arrest warrants against other Myanmar leaders as well. In 2021, Min Aung Hlaing seized power in Myanmar by ousting Aung San Suu Kyi.

Who are the Rohingya Muslims? Rohingya Muslims are a minority living mainly in the Arakan province of Myanmar. – They were settled here centuries ago by the Mughal rulers of Arakan. In the year 1785, Burmese Buddhists occupied Arakan, the southern part of the country. – They tried to expel Rohingya Muslims by killing thousands of people. – This was followed by a period of violence and genocide between Buddhists and Rohingya Muslims, which continues to this day.
Myanmar government does not consider them as its citizens About one million Rohingya Muslims live in Myanmar, but the Myanmar government does not consider these people its citizens. In the year 2012, a minister of Myanmar also announced this. – Thus these people have no country. They have been facing heavy repression since the beginning. – The country has been witnessing large-scale riots for some time now, with Rohingya Muslims suffering the greatest loss of life and property. – Because of this, they are living in refugee camps located on the border of Bangladesh and Thailand, where their condition is very bad.
