Petition claiming Shiva temple in Ajmer-Dargah accepted in Court: Court deems case fit to be heard; Notice to 3 parties including Dargah Committee

Ajmer Civil Court accepted a petition claiming Sankat Mochan Mahadev Mandir in the Dargah of Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti of Ajmer. On Wednesday, the court declared him fit for trial. The petition has been filed on behalf of Hindu Sena National President Vishnu Gupta.

The civil court has sent notices to the Ministry of Minority Affairs, Dargah Committee Ajmer and Archaeological Survey of India (ASI). The next hearing of this case will be on December 20.

The petition cited the 1911 book Ajmer: Historical and Descriptive by retired judge Harvilas Sharda to claim that temple debris was used in the construction of the dargah. Also, the sanctum sanctorum and the complex are said to contain a Jain temple.

A claim was made on the basis of these documents

  • History of Sufism in India

  • Retired Justice Harvilas Sharda's book Ajmer: Historical and Descriptive, written in 1911, is cited. In this book, the judge mentioned parts of the temple rubble in the construction of the 75 feet high Buland Darwaza in the present building. It has a basement or sanctum sanctorum, which is said to contain a Shivlinga.
  • According to the book, a Brahmin family used to worship here.

Hindu Sena National President Vishnu Gupta said, “If you walk around the Ajmer Dargah, you will see Hindu tradition carved on the Buland Darwaza.” Wherever there is a Shiva temple, there must be waterfalls, trees etc. There is definitely water. In such a situation, the archeology department has also been appealed to investigate here.

A 38-page petition was filed in the civil court

  • Advocate Ramswaroop Bishnoi of Delhi said, 'A 38-page application has been filed in the court. It is said that there is a Shiva temple in the dargah of Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti. Evidence has also been presented regarding the structure of the dargah and evidence of a Shiva temple.
  • In the petition, an appeal has been made to conduct a survey of the Dargah complex by the ASI. Besides this, examples of Bhojshalas from Dhar, Banaras and other places in Madhya Pradesh are also given.
  • Dargah Committee, Ministry of Minorities and Department of Archeology have been made parties in the petition. The dargah committee has called the construction in the area illegal and demanded to remove the encroachment and give the right to worship in the temple.
  • Advocates Ramswaroop Bishnoi and Ishwar Singh argued on behalf of the Hindu Sena.
