Frontpage Insights: Beating and killing videos seen on social media scare kids in real life, want to be left alone

  • Violent videos have a bad effect on the youth, fear has increased in children, they are learning violence

According to a study conducted by the Youth Endowment Fund on more than 10,000 children between the ages of 13 and 17, 1 in 4 minors who watch social media are exposed to real-life violence, including wars, beatings, stabbings, conflicts, etc., automatically through algorithm recommendations. 8 out of 10 children who saw violence in a social media clip said it made them feel less safe in their local area. Whereas, 68% of children felt that this reduced their chances of going out.

The youth said that the clip of the fight is shared on social media to show their awe. Due to repeated exposure to violence, children become desensitized and violence seems normal to them. Recently, the Prime Minister of Australia has announced plans to introduce a minimum age for social media use.

We all know that social media in general is not fully social, Albanese said. The truth is this is harming our children and I want to ban it. Most countries have a minimum age of 16 for social media use, but many social media outlets have failed to meet these laws. New laws are to be implemented for security.

Children are carrying out violent incidents only by taking inspiration from social media Many children are being exploited on social media. Charlotte O'Brien-Ella Ketley-Crawford committed suicide in September. Both were 12 years old, and their families say they were targeted by the thugs via Snapchat. About 3,30,000 youths in England and Wales say that they have carried out violent incidents after being inspired by social media.
