The Supreme Court on Tuesday rejected a petition seeking reintroduction of ballot paper voting system in elections.
A bench of Justice Vikram Nath and Justice PB Varale told the petitioner- The parties have no problem with EVMs, why do you have? Where do you get such ideas?
Regarding this, petitioner KA Paul said- Leaders like Chandrababu Naidu and YS Jagan Mohan Reddy have also questioned the tampering with Electronic Voting Machine (EVM).
The bench said, when Chandrababu Naidu or Jagan Mohan Reddy lose an election they say that the EVMs are tampered with and when they win they say nothing.
How can we see it? We reject it. This is not the place to discuss all this. Why are you coming to this political field? Your field of work is very different.
Let us tell you that Paul is the president of an organization which has saved more than 3 lakh orphans and 40 lakh widows.
Even in countries like America, voting is done by ballot paper Petitioner Kay Paul referred to Elon Musk's comments. Which suggested that EVMs may be tampered with. EVMs are a threat to democracy. He said- I have visited more than 150 countries and most of them have adopted ballot paper voting. Paul said that I believe India should adopt the same method.
On this the bench said why you don't want to be separated from other countries. Petitioner KA also sought direction from the poll bench to the Election Commission. Such candidates should be disqualified for at least five years if they are found guilty of luring voters with money, liquor and other things during elections, he said.
October 17: Congress petition regarding Haryana election rejected On October 16, Priya Mishra and Vikas Bansal on behalf of the Congress filed a petition in the Supreme Court alleging irregularities in the counting of votes in 20 seats during the Haryana assembly elections.
The petition stated that the Election Commission has conducted elections in Haryana using EVMs. The results were also declared on the same basis, but some EVMs were working on 99 per cent battery capacity, while some were working on 60-70 and less than 80 per cent battery capacity. Even on the day of counting, some EVMs had 99 percent battery.
During the hearing on October 17, the Supreme Court reprimanded the petitioner. The court said that for filing such an application you can also be fined. You submit the papers, we will take care of them.

April 26: Demand for 100% matching of EVM-VVPAT rejected in Supreme Court, said- election will not be held with ballot paper On April 26 this year, the Supreme Court had dismissed the petitions regarding conducting elections through ballot paper and 100% cross-checking of Electronic Voting Machines (EVM) and VVPAT slips. Also, for the first time in the 42-year history of the use of EVMs, the way of investigation was opened. The decision was delivered by Justice Dipankar Dutta and Justice Sanjeev Khanna.
Earlier on April 24, the bench had reserved the decision after a 40-minute hearing. Justice Sanjiv Khanna said, we are not re-hearing the merits. We would like specific clarifications. We had some questions and got answers. Reserve judgment.
