World Chess Championship- Gukesh loses first match: defeats defending champion Ding Liren; The Chinese player took a 1-0 lead

Indian Grandmaster D Gukesh has lost the first match of the ongoing World Chess Championship in Singapore. He was defeated by defending champion Ding Liren. After this defeat, the Indian star is 0-1 behind in the match that lasted for 14 matches. This is the first time in the history of the World Chess Championship that two Asian players are competing against each other to become the world champion.

18-year-old Gukesh started with White Peas. He made a mistake early in the game by moving the king's front pawn two squares. Liren responded with 'French Defence'. Gukesh adopted the same strategy that Viswanathan Anand adopted in 2001 when he won his first World Championship title against Alexey Shirov of Spain.

Gukesh had a half-hour advantage until the 12th move, but after 8 moves Liren got the extra minutes, proving that he had overcome his initial challenge. After this he made a huge comeback and won in 42 moves.
