After the death of Mahendra Singh Mewar, a former member of the royal family of Udaipur and former MP Mahendra Singh Mewar, a controversy has erupted over the coronation ceremony of his elder son Vishwaraj. The family of Mahendra Singh Mewar's brother and Vishwaraj's uncle Arvind Singh Mewar has locked the doors of the City Palace in Udaipur to prevent them from following this tradition. Also, by publishing a general notice in the newspaper, unauthorized entry into the Ekling temple has also been banned.
As per tradition, Vishwaraj Singh Dhoni would go to Udaipur City Palace for darshan, but the gates of City Palace (entered from Rangnivas and Jagdish Chowk) are closed. A large number of policemen have been deployed outside the Ranganivas gate.
The gate leading to City Palace from Jagdish Chowk in Udaipur has been closed. Controversy is likely to arise after Vishwaraj Singh of Mewar reaches Udaipur.
The Udaipur City Palace has also sought help from the administration to maintain law and order. Udaipur Collector Arvind Poswal and SP Yogesh Goyal reached City Palace on Monday. It is being said that efforts are being made to reconcile the two parties.
Earlier, the tradition of enthronement of Vishwaraj Singh Mewar was followed in Chittorgarh. Monarchy has come to an end after democracy, but this ritual is performed symbolically. A coronation ceremony with blood was held during the Dastur (ritual) program at Fateh Prakash Mahal in Chittorgarh Fort on Monday.

Vishwaraj Singh was given a 21 gun salute during the coronation ceremony at Chittorgarh Fort. Vishwaraj has become the 77th Dewan of Eklinganathji. Flowers were laid all along the route for the 77th Maharana of the Mewar dynasty. People from different royal families are congratulating him. Vishwaraj is currently also MLA from Nathdwara.
On the other hand, the controversy is getting darker regarding the mad darshan of the City Palace of Udaipur. Udaipur SP Yogesh Goyal said- The administration tried to mediate, but no consensus was reached. A tight security system has been put in place. Another party has issued two legal notices warning against unauthorized entry into the Palace and the Eklingaji temple. On the other hand, Vishwaraj Singh is adamant about going to City Palace for Mewar.

What is the controversy in the former royal family of Udaipur? Udaipur's City Palace and Eklingji Temple are owned by Arvind Mewar, a member of the former royal family of Udaipur. Mahendra Singh Mewar (died November 10, 2024) was his elder brother. Mahendra Singh Mewar filed several cases in court against his father Bhagwat Singh Mewar.
In 1984, Bhagwat Singh Mewar severed ties with Mahendra Singh Mewar. Since then, Arvind has been looking after the family's properties, including the Mewar City Palace. While Mahendra Singh Mewar's family lives in Samor Bagh near City Palace.
After the death of Bhagwat Singh, the coronation ceremony of Mahendra Singh of Mewar was performed. Now after his death his son Vishwaraj Singh was enthroned. Arvind Mewar claims that Mahendra Singh Mewar was excommunicated by his father Bhagwat Singh and is himself the executor of his will. So they don't want to let him perform the coronation ceremony in the City Palace and Ekling Temple.
There is also a dispute between the two families regarding the property. In this regard, the court ordered that all the properties including City Palace, Shahi Niwas be given to Mahendra Singh Mewar, Arvind Singh Mewar and their sister Yogeshwari Kumari for 4 years each. However, it was later put on hold. Since then most of the wealth of the former royal family of Udaipur has been held by Arvind Singh Mewar.
