How much do you pay for a cup of masala chai? 10 rupees? 30 rupees more? If you go to a fancy cafe, you can pay up to around 300 rupees. But in Dubai, people are spending up to Rs 1 lakh to taste the gold flavored tea, which is served in pure silver cups and topped with 24 carat gold foil.
'Gold Karak' is the brainchild of Indian-origin owner Sucheta Sharma of Tea Boho Cafe. The cafe opened in DIFC's Emirates Financial Towers last month and has since attracted social media attention for its unique variety, including gold-plated croissants and gold-leafed tea.
The owner of the cafe is a woman of Indian origin According to Khaleej Times, the cafe has a dual menu. Customers can enjoy cheap Indian street food or opt for the more luxurious variety. Sucheta Sharma, owner of Boho Cafe, told Khaleej Times, 'We wanted to create something extraordinary for people who are looking for luxury'.
1 lakh rupees have to be spent for this tea Gold Karak tea is priced at AED 5,000 (roughly Rs. 1.1 lakh). The price of gold coffee at Dubai's Boho Cafe is almost the same. Each drink is accompanied by a gold-dusted croissant and silverware that customers can take home with them.
However, if a customer wants to taste gold without spending so much money, he can drink gold tea without a silver cup. For which they have to spend 150 AED (about Rs. 3,500). Other varieties on the menu include gold-infused water, gold burgers (with vegetarian and cheese options) and gold ice cream.
