- Mahayuti government in Maharashtra
After the results of the Maharashtra assembly elections, it is now clear that the coalition will form the government in the state. The chief ministerial candidate has not been announced by Mahayuti yet.
Chief Minister Eknath Shinde said after the results that it was not decided before the election that whoever will have more seats will become the CM. On the other hand, after taking responsibility for the defeat, Uddhav Thackeray took Shinde by the arm and said – now Shinde will have to work under Fadnavis' leadership.
This election was a contest between two alliances of 6 major parties. The Mahayuti comprises the BJP, Shiv Sena (Eknath Shinde) and the NCP (Ajit Pawar), while the Mahavikas Aghadi comprises the Congress, Shiv Sena (Uddhav Thackeray) and the NCP (Sharad Pawar).
BJP, which contested on 149 seats, has won the highest number of 132 seats. The coalition won a record 230 out of 288 seats. BJP's strike rate was 88%. The Congress-led Mahavikas Aghadi (MVA) won 46 seats.
