18 dead, 30 injured in Shia-Sunni violence in Pakistan: Violence continues for 3 days; 50 people died on Thursday

18 people were killed, while more than 30 others were injured in violence between two groups in Pakistan's Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province (KPK) on Friday. Fighting is still going on in Balishkhel, Khar Kali, Kunj Alizai and Maqbal areas of KPK. Most of those killed and injured belong to the Shia community.

According to local media reports, the death toll here has crossed 30. Houses and shops have also been damaged in the fighting. All the schools and colleges of the district were kept closed till Saturday due to the tense situation.

The conflict began when a convoy of passenger vans was fired upon in a clash between the Alizai (Shia) and Bagan (Sunni) tribes in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa's Kurram district. According to police, more than 50 passenger vans were fired upon in Manduri and Ochhat in Kurram district on Thursday, with 6 vans severely damaged. All these vehicles were going in a convoy from Parchinar to Peshawar, the capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. 50 people died and 20 people were injured.

The border dispute had become a haven for terrorists

There has always been tension between Pakistan and Afghanistan over Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. This is why many terrorist groups use it as a haven. The main reason for the terrorist incidents happening here is the lack of mutual agreement between the two countries regarding the border area.

Actually, Pakistan and Afghanistan are separated by a border. It is called the Durand line. Pakistan considers it the boundary line, but the Taliban clearly says that Pakistan's Khyber Pakhtunkhwa state is part of it. The Pakistani army has put up a barbed wire here.

After taking over Afghanistan, the Taliban asked Pakistan to vacate the area and tore down the fencing. Pakistan opposed it and deployed army there. After this, the Taliban blew up the Pakistani checkpost there.

When Pakistan erected a fence along the Durand Line, the Taliban tore it down.

Allegation of the people – There is unrest in the area due to the presence of the army

A few months ago, the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa revolted against the Pakistani army. More than 10,000 Pashtuns from the area took to the streets and chanted 'army go back'. He said that the army has created terror in the area.

The Pakhtuns were demanding a halt to the ongoing military operations in the Khyber region. Protesters have accused the Pakistani army of torturing civilians in the name of terrorism. She arrests whoever she wants whenever she wants.

The citizens of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa allege that the Pakistani army has been oppressing them for years in the name of eradicating terrorism.
