Arrest warrant issued against Israeli PM Netanyahu: International Court of Justice orders over war in Gaza; Former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant's name is also included

The International Criminal Court (ICC) on Thursday issued an arrest warrant against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Netanyahu is accused of war crimes in Gaza. Warrants have also been issued against former Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Galant and former Hamas commander Mohammad Daif in this case.

In issuing the warrant, the ICC said there were solid grounds to hold Netanyahu and Gallant responsible for starvation and atrocities against Palestinians in Gaza.

The warrant accuses Mohammed Daif of mass murder, rape and hostage-taking in Israel on October 7. However, Israel claimed that it had killed Mohammed Daif in an attack in July.

The ICC has also issued an arrest warrant against Russian President Vladimir Putin for war crimes in Ukraine.

In the order, the ICC has been asked to collect information related to Daif's death.

Israel rejected the allegations Israel has denied war crimes in Gaza, rejecting ICC jurisdiction. Former Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett has criticized the issuance of warrants against Netanyahu and Gallant. Israel's leading opposition leader Yair Lipid also condemned the order, calling it payback to terrorism.

There is currently no reaction from Netanyahu and Gallant on the warrant.

The ICC does not have powers of arrest The ICC has issued these warrants, but it does not have the power to arrest suspects. It can exercise its powers only in countries that have signed the treaty establishing this court.
