Google may have to sell its internet browser Google Chrome. In fact, the US Department of Justice i.e. DOJ may put pressure on Google to sell its Chrome internet browser. A decision in this matter can be given by the court.
According to media reports, Google Search has been accused of unfairly capturing the market. US Government wants to reduce the monopoly of Google Chrome. This step can be taken for this.
What is the matter?
In a decision in August, a US court held Google guilty of violating anti-trust rules. The court had said in its decision that Google misused its monopoly in the search and advertising market. This proves that the company has worked to maintain its monopoly.
Google Chrome most popular browser
At present, apart from Android mobile operating system, Google has services like Google Chrome browser and AI Gemini. The company shows targeted advertisements to users using its Google search algorithm. 65% of total internet searches worldwide are done through Google Chrome browser.
After this, Apple Safari has 21% market share. The share of other browsers including Firefox is quite less. The main reason for the increasing share of Google Chrome is the Android operating system. Most of the users in the world use smartphones with Android operating system, in which Google Chrome remains as the default browser.
Shares of Google's parent company fell by 1.25%
Shares of Google's parent company Alphabet rose 1.25% on Wednesday. Currently the market cap of the company has increased to 2.16 lakh crore dollars (Rs 182.40 lakh crore). Alphabet is the fourth largest company in the world in terms of market cap.
