Pakistan- Imran Khan granted bail in second Toshakhana case: Status unclear on release; Former PM has been in jail for 474 days

Imprisoned former Prime Minister of Pakistan Imran Khan has been granted bail in another case related to Toshakhana (Toshakhana Case-2). The Islamabad High Court has ordered to deposit a bond of 10 lakh Pakistani rupees as surety. Imran Khan has been in jail since August 5 last year. However, it is not yet clear whether Imran will be released after getting bail.

Already jailed Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi were arrested from jail in Toshakha case-2 on July 13 this year. However, last month on October 24, Bushra Bibi was granted bail by the Islamabad High Court.

On Thursday last week, a Pakistani court held a hearing to acquit Imran and Bushra in the Toshakha case-2. However, the court rejected this application.

Imran in jail for 474 days Imran has been lodged in Rawalpindi's Adiala Jail for 474 days in separate cases. A local court in Islamabad convicted him in the Toshakha case on August 5, 2023.

After this, he was arrested from his house in Zaman Park, Islamabad and sent to jail. He was later convicted in 2 more cases. However, Imran has been acquitted in all these cases. After being released in the fake Nikah case on July 13, he was arrested in Toshakha's Case-2 case.

Details of major cases related to Imran Khan

Case-1: Bushra Bibi's ex-husband Khawar Farid Maneka accused Bushra and Imran of having an un-Islamic marriage. After divorcing Bushra, Khan married her before the iddat period was over.

Bushra and Imran were convicted on February 3 in the case. He was sentenced to 7 years in prison and a fine of 5 lakh Pakistani rupees. Both were released on July 13 in the case.

Case-2: Earlier on June 3, the Islamabad High Court had acquitted Imran Khan in the cipher case (secret letter theft) due to lack of evidence. A special court in Islamabad sentenced him to 10 years. Imran Khan was detained on 29 August 2023 in connection with the Cypher Gate scandal.

Case-3: Khan was acquitted on April 1 in the Toshakha case. His 14-year sentence was revoked.

Case-4: Imran was arrested on July 13 in another case related to Toshakhana. This case was a follow-up to the first case of Toshakhana. In the first case, Imran Khan and his wife Bushra were accused of concealing information about gifts received from presidents of other countries and selling them in the market. Today i.e. 20th November, he has got bail in this case.
