Vikrant Massey, Riddhi Dogra and Rashi Khanna starrer 'The Sabarmati Report' has released. The length of the film is 2 hours 3 minutes. Frontpage Insights has given the film a rating of 2.5 out of 5 stars.
'The Sabarmati Report' is a crime-thriller film based on the 2002 Godhra incident. The film attempts to uncover the truth behind the fire that broke out in the S6 coach of the Sabarmati Express on 27 February 2002 and killed 59 car servants. The film's story revolves around a Hindi journalist named Samar Kumar (Vikrant Massey), who struggles to uncover the real truth of the incident. Riddhi Dogra and Raashi Khanna also play important roles in the film.
What is the story of the film? 'The Sabarmati Report' features Samar Kumar (Vikrant Massey), a Hindi journalist who covers a film beat. He has always been looked down upon by the film industry and English-speaking journalists. Manika (Riddhi Dogra), on the other hand, is an English news anchor who has clout in the media.
At Godhra, on 27 February 2002, 59 car servants died when S6 coach of the Sabarmati Express caught fire. Manika goes to Godhra to cover the incident and takes Samar along as her camera man. Samar considers this the 'golden opportunity' of her career. But when Manika, at the behest of her boss, distorts the entire incident and presents a false report to the public, Samar is shocked. He prepares his report to uncover the truth, but is not only fired by the channel boss, but also sent to jail for stealing the camera.
Samar's life becomes full of struggles – unemployed, addicted to alcohol and shunned by society. Meanwhile, channel officials and Manika are haunted by the fear of exposure of fake news following the Nanavati Commission report. Manika sends her channel's new reporter Amrita (Rashi Khanna) to Godhra, so that she can strengthen her report and blame the state government.
Amrita finds the video of Samar's report, and convinces her to take it with her to Godhra. Thus, together they arrive at the truth of the Godhra incident and bring to the world the tragedy of 59 innocent people.
How is the acting of the star cast? Vikrant Massey has done an excellent job in the role of Samar Kumar. Looking at his dialogue delivery and emotional depth, it seems that he was completely dedicated to the role. His struggle to find the truth of the Godhra incident can be felt on screen. Riddhi Dogra also gives an effective performance in her character Manika, and her role has dark negative shades. Rashi Khanna has played the character of Amrita well, though in some scenes her role feels a little incomplete.
How is the direction? The film is directed by Dheeraj Sarna and focuses on a sensitive issue. However, there are some flaws in the screenplay and storyline in the first half of the film. Some light comic scenes are inserted for no reason, which do not match the serious issue. The second half of the film is a bit more exciting. But the climax feels a bit weak. Because the aim of the film was to show the truth behind the killing of 59 innocent people, in the end the audience does not get any new information that is already seen in the media and newspapers.
How is the music of the film? The music of the film is mediocre, and only the song “Raja Ram” sounds impressive. The rest of the music does not attract much attention.
Final verdict, to watch or not to watch? 'The Sabarmati Report' can be watched by viewers who want to get information about the Godhra incident in a cinematic style. However, the film does not fully succeed in doing justice to its subject. It has some flaws in its story and presentation, but brilliant performances by Vikrant Massey and Riddhi Dogra make it worth a watch.
