Inner turmoil: It's not how much you live, it's how you live that matters

Dr. Jai Narayan Vyas

A model industrial group of the country, whose activities were spread abroad, was headed by J.R.D. Tata was He integrated all these companies through the activities of the Tata group, not only in India but also abroad, known for its integrity and transparency in solving any problem and quality products. In 1991 J.R.D. Tata retired as chairman of both 'Tata Industries' and 'Tata Sons' and was succeeded by Ratan Tata. Just at that time, famous personalities like Darbari Sheth, Kerkar, Russi Modi who were very senior in the departments of Tata Industries were heading groups like Hotels, Engineering, Power. Ratan Tata noticed that due to staying for a long time, there was a kind of stagnation in his thoughts. Ratan Tata took a bold decision not to have a full-time director above 75 years of age in the company and as a result veterans who would not have imagined during JRD Tata's tenure that they would have to be freed from mandatory responsibilities had to make way for his successor. Lord Shrikrishna has also said while serving Gita Gnana, Vasansi Jirnani Yatha Vihay Navani Grihnati Naroparani. And sharani vihay jirna- nyanyani samyati navani dehi ॥ In other words, just as a human being sheds old clothes and wears new clothes, so at the time of death the soul leaves the old and useless body and assumes a new physical body. It is said that the great emperor Sikandar, who set out to conquer the world, wrote in his will that after my death, keep both my hands outside the shroud during the funeral procession so that the people can know that this great emperor who set out to conquer the world does not take anything from this world. At the same time, in my funeral procession, keep the famous Hakim-Vaidyas of the state at the forefront so that everyone realizes that no amount of clever Hakim-Vaidyas can increase your life. Has it ever happened that when a big rich man's life is narrowed, some special men were sent up to go to the gate of heaven before him and arrange all the arrangements of the seth? The lines of a very popular song come to mind: Sajan re juth mat bolo, khuda ke paas jaana hai, nahati hai na ghoda hai, wahan padal hi jaana hai. If this is the ultimate truth, then what is the point of running after wealth and power with a single point program all your life? Wealth is not a passport to happiness. It is not new that those who have money do not feel hungry and those who are hungry have a loaf of bread to eat. A man does not think that one day he will leave all this and walk away. There is no end to his expectations and therefore a man who plans little rarely plans for his post-death situation. Voluntary retirement of JRD Tata was a step taken in this direction. When a man is surrounded by responsibilities, he rarely gets a chance to devote time to his favorite or hobby activities. After retiring at the age of 80, Ratan Tata learned to play the piano to pursue his hobby. Just because you retire from an activity doesn't mean you retire from life. A life engaged in one's favorite activity remains fragrant and never becomes a burden. Everyone should be clear about two things. First, the world was going on even before he came to this earth and the world is going to go on even after his departure, so we can spend the rest of our life in our favorite activities by giving up the thoughts like 'I do, I do the same ignorance, the burden of power like a dog'. . There is no greater happiness than when one's children are able to carry the responsibility assigned to them in front of their eyes. Secondly, take up any hobby in which old age does not become a hindrance and you can pursue your favorite activity in this field of choice. This is the start of your second innings. Go forth with courage and faith. As much life as there is is to be enjoyed, then why not enjoy it happily? Preparing to learn to play the piano at the age of 80 is a sign that you have reached the maturity stage of your personality. Have you planned for your retirement? If not, do 'Shri Ganesha Namah' in that direction today. This is the key to living a full and fulfilling life till the end of life. It's not how much you live, it's how you live that matters.
