Sahaj Samvad: A small town celebrates its liberation day

Nawab Mahabat Khan of Junagadh

5th of August? No. Independence year 1947? No. The country was celebrating Independence Day, after 200 years of revolution and non-cooperation war, the British government declared Indian independence. The Union Jack was taken down from the Red Fort and the tricolor flag was hoisted. The first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru hoisted the flag, and one more country in the world became independent, sovereign. Not one but two. The partition of India led to the existence of two countries, India and Pakistan. ..But on that day, the celebration of independence was not possible in some princely states of Saurashtra, including Junagadh, Sardargarh, Bantwa, Babriawad, Mangrol. Thus there were princely states connected with each other. The Nawab of Junagadh decided to join his state with Pakistan instead of India and the situation became serious. It was also argued that our princely state would be connected to Pakistan by sea. Along with Junagadh, the Nawab of Manavadar also took the same decision. The truth is that these Nawabs did not have their own decision making power. The courtiers around them did as they were told. The special adviser of the Nawab of Junagadh was one Abrahani, the other Diwan Shahnawaz Khan. (Later his heir Zulkiqar Ali became the Prime Minister of Pakistan and was hanged. His daughter Benazir also died. After partition a Junagadh resident visited Karachi to meet the descendants of the Nawab of Manawadar who built a magnificent cricket ground in his princely state, where famous cricketers played on the magnificent pitch. Coming. He was playing cricket in the street of Karachi. Even the descendants of Junagadh thought it was a mistake. But what about the Nawabs of Junagadh? There was a drama school and he used to help the drama societies of that time. 13 salami states, 100 princely states, the annual income of a princely state was 3000 rupees. Junagadh was entitled to a 'Jortalbi' levy (there is also a novel by Gunavantaraya Acharya in this name!) meaning that the Nawab had a revenue of Rs 92,421, out of which he had to pay tribute to the British Government and Gaekwad.Junagarh's area was 3049 square miles, but add the other united princely states So 3873 miles. After Shahnawaz Khan consulted with Pakistan-maker Mohammad Ali Jinnah, the Nawab issued the Gazette of August 15, 1947, declaring annexation with Pakistan. It had a Hindu population of 5,34,321, Muslims 1,27,814, Jains 8,077, Christians 282, Parsis 66, Sikhs 36, Jews 14, and one Buddhist, since 1876 the Babi State. The Last Nawab of the Strange Mind. A dog lover. A public festival will be celebrated on that day. His marriage stories were well known among the people. The first Bibi was Munavwar Jahan of Bhopal. It is said that the name of 'Bhopalwali Begum' makes the staff afraid. Surwal, Sadro, Achkan's man wears a suit and puffs on a cigarette. One of his sons, Dilawar Khan, became the governor of Sindh in Pakistan. Second Begum Junagadhwali Begum, third Arab daughter. Moti Bu, daughter of the fourth negro Jamadar. This Shyamvarni Begum was divorced by the Nawab and went begging on the streets of Junagadh. The courtiers found a bride from Uttar Pradesh to appease Bhopalwali, but she did not live long. Died of tuberculosis. The sixth marriage took place with Kutianawali Begum. A foi of Shakinabanu Begum arranged a marriage with his daughter Aman, giving the Nawab three daughters. Eighth marriage to Malek Jahan, ninth marriage to Kutiana Begum's sister. Then it's Saidabanu's turn. 10 marriages and 19 children in twenty-seven years … where would his heirs be in Pakistan today? Sardar Vallabhbhai's tireless effort to unite all with the Indian Union was described by his secretary V. P. found in Menon's voluminous treatise. Sardar did not accept the eccentric scheme like 'Jam-Jooth and Raj-Mandal'. 222 princely states joined India by 1947. Praja Mandal became active in Junagadh. Dhebarbhai and Menon came to convince the Nawab but failed. A convention was held in Mumbai on 21 August. Kanaiyalal Munshi framed the constitution of the Arzi government. Two journalists Shamaldas Gandhi and Amritlal Seth got leadership. The exodus started from Junagadh and Manavdar. On August 24, the agreement was announced in Karachi with the Government of Pakistan. The Junagadh-Manavdar issue was brought forward to play in Kashmir. It continues today. The map of Pakistan points out the names of these three in the disputed territories. A meeting held in Karachi also decided to declare Junagadh-Manavdar as the fifth province of Pakistan. On 23 September Arzi (which followed Netaji Subhash Chandra's 1943 map of Arzi Hokumat A Hind) marched to liberate Junagadh in the presence of 30,000 civilians. Rajkot was its headquarters. Saurashtra underground radio and one after another the occupation of villages began. Amrapur, Devgam, Vaghania, Bhadula, Pajod, Bantwa, Babriawad, Kutiana, Bhesan etc. became liberated places. The Nawab of Junagadh fled to Karachi on 24 October 1947. Junagadh was liberated on November 9, 1947. Before that, on October 22, Manawadar Nawab took the road to Pakistan. This small town recently celebrated its 76th Liberation Day on October 22. Today this event may seem small, but if we think how crucial it was in 1947, along with it, a small plaque is waiting at one end of the ground of Bahauddin College in Junagadh, when will the people, society and government come together to make a grand monument of that historical event?
