Two Dubai kids buy JioHotstar.com domain: Delhi-based app developer demands ₹1 crore from Reliance, company says – will take legal action

The controversy that started over the JioHotstar.com domain has taken a new turn. An anonymous app developer from Delhi has sold this domain to two kids in Dubai.

The app developer bought the domain in 2023 when the JioCinema-Hotstar merger talks started. The developer felt that the JioHotstar.com domain would be the best option for the company formed after the merger.

Jainam and Jeevika create content related to toys and games who have purchased the JioHotstar.com domain.

  • The controversy over this domain started when an anonymous app developer posted a letter on https://jiohotstar.com. Through the letter, he demanded 1 crore rupees from Reliance in exchange for providing the domain.
  • The developer has written in the letter that he will give this domain to Reliance only if the company gives him funds for further studies. The developer wanted to raise funds for tuition fees to study an EMBA at Cambridge University.
  • The developer said that Ambujesh Yadav, assistant vice president (commercial) of Reliance, had approached him and discussed the domain, but he had declined the offer. Reliance asked for legal action regarding the domain name.
  • On Saturday, JioHotstar.com had a new landing page stating that Dubai-based siblings Jainam and Jeevika have bought a domain from a young software developer to support them.
  • Jainam and Jivika also made a video about buying a domain. In this he said, this is much less than the amount of funds required by the app developer, but we wanted to help him so we bought the domain.

Jainam and Jeevika make toys and games related materials

Jainam and Jeevika have a YouTube channel where they make DIY content about toys and games. An NGO is also registered in his name. Jainam Jeevika Foundation. The directors of the foundation are Kantilal Shankarlal Jain and Shobha Kantilal Jain.

The merger was announced in February this year

The merger of Reliance Industries' Viacom 18 and Walt Disney's Star India could be completed by November this year. The merger was announced in February this year. Under this deal, Viacom 18 will be merged into Star India.
