The murder case registered against Bangladesh's former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina was heard in a Dhaka court on Saturday. According to Bangladeshi newspaper Daily Star, the court has asked the police to file the investigation report by Monday, November 28.
The case relates to the death of an 18-year-old college student during anti-government protests in Mirpur. Hasina and 23 other people have been made accused in this case.
A student was killed in action by security forces during the protest. On August 15, 2024, a murder case was filed by the brother of the deceased against Hasina and 23 other accused.
225 cases including murder have been registered against Hasina
Hasina is accused of being directly involved in or abetting the violence, which led to the death of the complainant's brother.
Besides Hasina, his government also includes former Interior Minister Asaduzman Khan, Awami League Secretary General Obedul Qadir, former Law Minister Anisul Haque and former Police IG Chaudhry Abdullah Al-Mamun.
So far 225 cases have been registered against Hasina. Among them are 194 murders, 16 massacres, 3 kidnappings, 11 attempted murders and 1 attack on the program of the opposition BNP party.
There were violent protests against reservation in Bangladesh. There were also fires during this period.
Hasina came to India for anti-government protests
Sheikh Hasina came to India on August 5 after anti-government protests. The protesting students have been protesting since June demanding Sheikh Hasina's resignation in opposition to reservation. More than 700 people died in these demonstrations.
In fact, the Dhaka High Court issued an order on June 5 that once again enforced reservation in the country. The Hasina government had earlier abolished reservation in 2018. Violent protests started across the country after the court's decision.
