Indian High Commissioner Says- Canada Betrayed India: Allegations that Nijjar Killing Was Politically Motivated, Influence of Khalistan Militants on Canadian Politics

India's High Commissioner to Canada Sanjay Kumar Verma said on Thursday that Canada has betrayed India. He said that Canada has not provided any evidence to India in the Nijjar murder case. He said that Canada's accusations against India in the Nijjar murder case were motivated by vote bank politics.

Sanjay Kumar Verma was recently recalled from Canada by the central government for security reasons. In an interview to news agency ANI, Verma said that India being a responsible democracy does not interfere in the internal affairs of any country.

Many Khalistani militants are Canadian citizens who have political influence, he said. These Khalistan terrorists are harming the relations between India and Canada. According to Verma, these terrorists impose their views on political parties.

Sanjay Kumar Verma was sent to Canada as High Commissioner by the Government of India in 2022.

Verma said – I was falsely accused

High Commissioner Verma also expressed his views on the allegations leveled against him regarding Nijjar's murder. Verma described it as very painful. He said-

I went there to further improve the relations between the two countries. But accusations were made against me, even such dirty accusations that could tarnish the image of my country.

Verma regretted not being able to complete the work for which he was sent. He said that if the interests of my country are harmed, it is my duty to protect them.

Due to strained relations with Canada, India on Monday, October 14 expelled 6 Canadian diplomats, including Acting High Commissioner Stewart Ross Wheeler. They were given time till 12 midnight on 19th October. Canada also asked 6 Indian diplomats to leave the country.

However, even before this, the Indian Ministry of External Affairs also recalled its High Commissioner to Canada, Sanjay Kumar Verma. In fact, the Trudeau government sent a letter to the Indian government on October 13. In which the Indian High Commissioner and some other diplomats were named as suspects in the murder of the Canadian citizen.

External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said that Trudeau himself is disproving the allegations against India with his statements.

Trudeau admits – no solid evidence against India

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau appeared before the Government of Canada Commission on October 16. He meanwhile admitted that when he alleged the involvement of Indian agents in the killing of Hardeep Singh Nijjar in September 2023 last year, he had only intelligence. There was no concrete evidence.

However, since Trudeau's allegations, there have been several occasions in the year when his government has claimed that it has provided India with evidence related to the Nijjar massacre. While India is rejecting these claims. Currently, the Canadian PM has not clarified whether his government has now provided evidence to India.
