Question: How suitable is sound to our ears? Answer- The unit for measuring sound intensity is the decibel (DB). According to the Hearing Health Foundation, an organization that researches loud noise, 70 decibels or less is considered safe for humans. This is the sound of a normal conversation between two people. However, if a person is speaking loudly near the ear, the decibel level of their voice may be higher than normal.

Q- How many decibels can be more dangerous than noise? Answer- Dr. Rachit Saxena says that continuous exposure to noise above 70 decibels is dangerous. The sound of earphones, earbuds is 75-80 decibels at 60% volume level. At high volume this sound approaches 110 decibels. If a person is exposed to noise above 85 decibels for more than 8 hours a day, hearing loss can occur. Keep in mind that the higher the decibel level, the lower the hearing ability.

Q- What kind of health problems can loud noise cause? Answer- According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), increasing the decibel level beyond the prescribed limit not only affects the ability to hear, but also leads to several serious illnesses. Loud noise can cause mental stress and irritability. Apart from this, loud noise can also cause heart related problems including insomnia.

Question- How can loud DJ or loudspeaker sound cause heart attack? Answer- Dr. Rachit Saxena says that there is a direct connection between our ears and our hearts. That is, whatever sound reaches the ear reaches the heart through the nerves. The heart beats faster as the DJ's booming sound constantly reaches the ears. It increases stress, anxiety and fear. In such a condition, the blood in the veins of the ear starts to thicken. If it continues for a long time, it can cause a heart attack.

Q- Which people are more at risk from loud DJ or loudspeakers? Answer- According to a report by Medics of New Jersey, USA, people living in very noisy areas have a higher risk of heart attack. This figure increases further in areas where there are airports. The heart attack rate in these areas increases to 72%.

Apart from this, loud noise is also very dangerous for children, elderly and people with certain health conditions. Understand this from the following graphic.
