Cyclone Dana to hit Odisha coast on October 24: winds of 120kmph; Heavy rain will start a day before

IMD Director General Mrityunjay Mohapatra said that heavy rains will start on October 23, a day before the storm hits. Some places along the Odisha-Bengal coast may receive 20 cm of rain on October 24-25. In some places, more than 30 cm or 11 inches (one foot) of rain could fall.

The Meteorological Department has advised the fishermen of Odisha-Bengal not to go into the sea from October 23 to 26. The IMD said that a low pressure will start forming over the Andaman Sea by Monday (October 21) afternoon. By October 22, it will turn into a deep depression over east-central Bay of Bengal. It will turn into a cyclone by October 24.

West Bengal: East Medinipur, West Medinipur, South 24 Parganas and North 24 Parganas are likely to receive heavy rain, while Kolkata, Howrah, Hooghly and Jhargram are likely to receive heavy rain between October 23 and 24.
