DDLJ: Released 29 years ago on this day: Karva Choth gets grand recognition across country, Vrat grows popular among men too

29 years ago on this day, 20 October 1995, Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol starrer film 'DDLJ' was released. It was only after the Karava Choth sequence shown in the film that the festival began to be celebrated in a grand manner across the country. On the 29th anniversary of the film today, Frontpage Insights spoke to the film's dialogue writer Javed Siddiqui. Read what was said…

Shah Rukh and Kajol starrer 'DDLJ' was the highest grossing film of 1995

This was not a movie, it was a miracle: Javed Siddiqui 'DDLJ' stands for 'Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge'. It was not just a film, it was a miracle. Aditya Chopra was directing this film alone. He himself took care of every detail. Since the movie is in Punjab, Karva Choth was celebrated there as well. In this sequence, it was to be shown that Kajol is Simran Raj who has already considered Manoman Shahrukh as her husband. But the family members are getting her engaged to someone else and keep the Karva Choth Vrat for her.

This scene of the film is still memorable and trendsetter Simran takes a promise from Raj that she will break her fast by drinking water from his hand. So what trick should be adopted here so that honor is maintained in front of the family members and one can also complete Simran Vrat by drinking water from Raj's hand.

Chopra here shows Simran pretending to faint, who is held by Raj and in the rush no one remembers that Raj gave her water to drink. The film and its Karva Choth scene are still fresh and memorable. That is called trend setting.

Men were also forced to fast The answer to why this film and Karwa Choth became such a hit can be said that Kajol's skill in getting into character and Shah Rukh's hard work habit made it easy.

Interestingly, the film has also fueled the trend of fasting among men. That is, on one hand Simran fasts with hunger and thirst, on the other hand Raj also supports her by not eating anything.

After the trend of Karva Choth grew with 'DDLJ', other states also started celebrating it in a grand manner. In a way, this is a festival of love, which no one minds celebrating.

(As told by Javed Siddiqui to Shayda)

After the release of this film, the pair of Shah Rukh and Kajol became a super hit

Even today, DDLJ's song is played on fasting days Even though the movie 'Dil Wale Dulhania Le Jayenge' was released 29 years ago, its song is still played on Karachoth day. This song is- 'Tere Haat Se Pickar Paani Mein Daasi Se Bun Jaon Rani…'.

The song was sung by Manpreet Kaur and Yash Chopra's wife Pamela Chopra. Its lyrics were written by Anand Bakshi.
