Rape on college campuses ignites Pakistan: Students take to the streets, schools-colleges closed; Police arrested 380 people including a guard

In Rawalpindi, angry students pelted stones and set fire to the police.

All schools and colleges have been ordered to close in Pakistan's Punjab amid student protests. A student movement has erupted in Pakistan after allegations of rape of a student on the campus of Punjab College for Women. Punjab is the most populous region of Pakistan.

Now the home department of Punjab province has also banned gathering of people on Friday and Saturday. The closure of schools and colleges will affect the education of around 2.6 crore children and college students in Punjab province.

Rawalpindi police say 380 people have been arrested on charges of vandalism and arson during protests in the city on Thursday. The police will identify the students who started the fire from the photos/videos available on social media.

The student demonstrations have now spread from various colleges in Lahore to cities like Rawalpindi. The police fired tear gas shells and lathi-charged the protest in Rawalpindi.

As the post went viral on social media, students were outraged

Police also arrested the security guard seen in the social media post, but no victim has yet come forward and police could not confirm the allegations.

In this matter, Lahore Director of Punjab Group of Colleges, Arif Chaudhary, says that if this incident is proved to be true, I will resign and stand with the students. Meanwhile, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has said that people who are spreading false news on social media will be punished.
