New statue of 'Lady of Justice' at Supreme Court: blindfold removed, book of constitution instead of sword in hand; CJI made the order

A new statue of 'Lady of Justice' has been installed in the Supreme Court. The statue's blindfold has been removed, indicating that the law is still blind. Also, instead of a sword, a book of constitution has been given in his hand. The statue has been installed in the library of Supreme Court judges.

According to media reports, the order for this new statue has been given by CJI DY Chandrachud. Its purpose is to convey the message that the law in the country is not blind and is not a symbol of punishment. The blindfold on the old statue shows that everyone is equal in the eyes of the law. While the sword symbolized authority and the power to punish injustice.

However, the scale is held in the right hand of the statue as it is, as it is a symbol of balance in society. The scales indicate that the court looks and hears the facts and arguments of both sides before reaching a conclusion.

An attempt to leave behind the legacy of the British era The statue is being seen as an attempt to leave behind the legacy of British rule. Recently, the Government of India implemented the Indian Penal Code (IPC) Act to replace the Indian Penal Code (IPC) Act which was in effect during the British rule. Changing the statue of Lady of Justice can also be considered as a step taken under this link.

Prominent sources associated with the CJI office said, CJI believes that India should move on from the British legacy. He believes that the law is not blind, it treats everyone equally. It means that the court does not look at money, wealth and other dimensions of dominance in society.

According to the source, this was the reason why the CJI talked about changing the look of the lady of justice. He said the statue should have a constitution in one hand, not a sword. So that the country gets the message that justice is done according to the constitution. The sword is a symbol of violence, but courts administer justice according to constitutional law.

Until now, such a statue of Lady of Justice was installed in the Supreme Court. He has a blindfold and a sword in one hand.

Justicia is the 'Lady of Justice' in Roman mythology. The Lady of Justice is 'Justicia', the goddess of justice from Roman mythology. The Roman Emperor Augustus considered justice one of the cardinal virtues. After him, Emperor Tiberius built the Temple of Justicia in Rome. Justicia became a symbol of the quality of justice with which each emperor wanted to associate his rule.

Emperor Vespasian minted coins with her image, where she was seated on a throne called 'Justicia Augusta'. Many emperors after him used the image of this goddess to declare themselves protectors of justice.

This statue of the goddess of justice can be seen in courts, law offices and educational institutions in many countries of the world.
