Recently, actor Aditya Seal's film 'Amar Prem Ki Prem Kahani' has released on the OTT platform. The film is about the love story of two men. During a conversation with Frontpage Insights, Aditya spoke about the script, the preparation of his character and this sensitive subject. But shared his opinion about the responsibility to work. Read some key excerpts from the conversation:
What was your first reaction when you got the script? When I got the script of this film I found it very interesting. The film is about the love story of two men, there have been films on such topics before, but the specialty of this film is that we are making it normal. Usually in movies it is shown that the family members or the society is not accepting, but here the story starts from a place where everyone has accepted. This next story is worth watching. It playfully portrays the mild-mannered conflict between a Bengali and a Punjabi marriage. I thought it wouldn't affect the story much if it had a female character. That's why this script felt fresh and different for me.
How did you prepare for this character? There was no special preparation for this role. I just had to convince my mind to treat this film like a regular love story. At first there was hesitation, but within a few days everything went back to normal.
This is a sensitive topic. Do you feel challenged or responsible? Absolutely. When I was reading the script, I was always careful that I shouldn't hurt anyone. It was especially important to show that people in society are not special. Many of my friends are from this community, so it was very important to me that no one said I had done anything wrong. I was always afraid that my friends would tell me that I had done something wrong. I took care to present the story in such a way that people who don't understand it can understand it.
How did your friends react after watching the film? Leave your friends, because they are biased. But I am very happy to see the messages from other people. I did not expect so many reactions. I liked this very much. Even now messages are coming on my Instagram and people are saying that we have made such a film. One gentleman wrote that after watching the film he told his family the truth, and his brother happily accepted it. His statement touched my heart. This was an inspiration for me.
This is the biggest victory you can show the world your reality. I am happy that my film changed someone's life. I thanked the gentleman and took a screenshot because it meant a lot to me. Many of my friends are from the LGBTQ community, I have never discriminated. Yes, but it took me time to understand that some people in the society do not understand such relationships. Everyone has their own story, and we should respect their feelings.
