Shilpa Shetty and Raj Kundra have got a major relief from the Bombay High Court. The court stayed the notice issued by the ED. The court said, until the Appellate Tribunal hears his petition challenging the order of property attachment, no action will be taken in the matter.
On September 27, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) issued a notice to Shilpa Shetty and Kundra to vacate their house in Juhu, Mumbai and a farm house in Pune within 10 days. The couple filed a petition against him in the Bombay High Court. It was also called for its cancellation as illegal and arbitrary.
A bench of Justice Revathi Mohite Dere and Justice PK Chavan on Thursday allowed Shilpa Shetty and Raj Kundra's plea for stay. The court said that no action will be taken on the eviction notice until the Appellate Tribunal decides on their appeal. The court also said that if the Appellate Tribunal ruled against them, they would be given two weeks to implement it.
Know what is the whole matter In 2018, the ED filed a complaint against Amit Bharadwaj and others on charges of Bitcoin fraud and money laundering. The name of Shilpa Shetty and Raj Kundra also came up in this case. Even though both the accused have not been proved, they have been called for questioning several times in this case.
In April this year, the ED charged the couple with Rs. 98 crore was ordered to be temporarily confiscated. This included his farm house in Pune and his house in Juhu, Mumbai.
What is Appellate Tribunal? An Appellate Tribunal is a tribunal created under the Act. It hears appeals in cases relating to a particular subject.
