India's legendary industrialist Ratan Tata passed away on 9 October 2024. Yesterday evening he was dissolved in Panchamahabhut. The whole country mourned his death. Ratan Tata's funeral was attended by a large number of people. The whole country bade him farewell with tears in his eyes.
Ratan Tata has achieved many achievements and works in his lifetime, for which he will always be remembered. He was also honored with Padma Bhushan and Padma Vibhushan. There are many such things associated with them, which you will be surprised to know. One such story is connected with the Mumbai terror attack of 26/11. When the terrorist attack on the Taj Hotel, Ratan Tata asked to blow up the entire property with bombs.
Let's start with the Mumbai attacks. On the fateful evening of 26 November 2008… 10 Pakistani terrorists attacked India's first luxury hotel Taj Mahal Palace with 600 rooms and 44 suites. As soon as Ratan Tata got this news, he reached the gate of Taj Hotel within a few minutes. Despite all odds, Ratan Tata went inside the Taj Hotel and stayed there for three days and three nights.
Not a single terrorist can escape, so blow up the entire property
In an interview, Ratan Tata said that he was stopped at the gate of Taj Hotel due to security reasons. He then told the security personnel, “Not a single terrorist should be left alive and if necessary, blow up the entire property (Taj Hotel).” During this time Ratan Tata ensured that everyone stayed safe.
This work was done in just 20 days
Only they could have done what Ratan Tata did after the attack. Within 20 days of the attack, he formed a trust. In the same 20 days, the trust paid compensation ranging from Rs 36 lakh to Rs 85 lakh to the family of each employee killed in the attack. Not only did the Taj compensate the hotel employees but also other victims of terrorist attacks like railway employees, police staff, passersby.
Took responsibility of children's education
Ratan Tata also took full responsibility for the education of the children of the victims of terrorist attacks. You will be surprised to know that what Ratan Tata did by creating a trust in just 20 days, it took the government years to do the same. But Ratan Tata did this quickly.
Donated Rs 500 crore during the COVID-19 pandemic
Ratan was deeply involved in the Tata Trusts, the philanthropic arm of the Tata Group. This arm of the Tata Group operates in sectors such as education, healthcare and rural development. Throughout his career, Ratan Tata ensured that 60-65% of Tata Sons' dividends were used for charitable causes. Ratan Tata donates Rs. 500 crore was donated.
Ratan Tata donated $50 million to his alma mater Harvard Business School to establish an executive center. His contributions have earned him global respect, furthering his legacy as a philanthropist and visionary.
