Australia lose first since World Cup win: England beat by 46 runs under DLS rule, Brooke's first century

World champions Australia suffered their first defeat since ODI World Cup 2023. The Australian team beat England by 46 runs on Tuesday night using the DLS (Duckworth Lewis Standard) method. With this win, the English team has leveled the 5-match series 1-2 after 2-0. The fourth match of the series will be played at Lord's on September 27.

The hosts won the toss and elected to bowl in a rain-affected match at Chester-le-Street on Tuesday night. Batting first, the Australian team scored 304 runs for 7 wickets in 50 overs. In the reply innings, the English team scored 254 for 4 in 37.4 overs when rain came and play had to be stopped. In the end, under the DLS method, England were declared winners by 46 runs. Captain Harry Brooke was declared player of the match. Brook scored an unbeaten 110 off 94 balls.
