Received amputation threat- Namrata Soni: Says, 'When female make-up artists were banned, Salman-Shah Rukh came to the rescue'

Makeup artist Namrata Soni cites an incident when the industry's makeup artist association banned female makeup artists. Namrata said that actors like Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan helped her during these bad times.

Talking to news agency ANI, Namrata said, 'I remember I was working in Film City. At this time, parents were receiving threatening calls that if your daughter does not stop wearing make-up, we will cut off her hands. All this was happening in India where songs of secularism are being sung with a woman president.

People used to come on the sets to threaten Namrata also shared her scary experience of working with the association. He said that when he was threatened on the sets, the makers used to ask him to hide in the vanity van. However, later when many female actors took a stand for themselves, many A-listers also came to their defense and supported them.

Namrata said, 'I am very lucky that I got the chance to work with people like Farah Khan, Karan Johar, Sonam Kapoor, Sameera Reddy, Katrina Kaif. These people supported me at every turn.

Salman-Shah Rukh came forward in support of modesty Namrata further said, 'Celebs were saying that they want to work with Namrata. When the union comes on set, we are ready to support modesty and also ready to fight together. I was very lucky to have people like Shahrukh and Salman, who stood by me. I'm glad I fought.'

Before 2014, there were no women makeup artists in any film industry in the country. There were no women makeup artists registered with the Makeup Artists Association. The make-up of both the hero and the heroine was done by men, whether the make-up was only for the face or the whole body. Women makeup artists had to fight for four years to get a place in this men's association.
