Honoring 17 Olympic-Paralympic Athletes: ₹7 lakh each; Special award to Amit Rohidas and Praveen Kumar

The Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology on Sunday felicitated 17 athletes who participated in the Paris Olympics and Paralympics. In which 15 Olympians and 2 Paralympians were involved. Olympic medal winning hockey team members Amit Rohidas and Praveen Kumar were given special awards. Amit was part of the Indian hockey team that won bronze, while para-shot putter Praveen Kumar won the gold medal.

Each player was given a prize money of 7 lakh rupees. Odisha sprinters Dutee Chand and Anuradha Biswal attended the event. The founder of the university Dr. Achyut Samant said that a total of 20 Olympians and 2 Paralympians have emerged from the institute. Out of which 7 players have been honored with Arjuna Award.

The university has honored 15 Olympians and 2 Paralympians.

Medal winners of South Asian Championship and State Weightlifting Championship were also felicitated at the function.

He was honored Amit Rohidas (Hockey), Kishore Kumar Jena (Javelin Throw), Annu Rani (Javelin Throw), Tajinderpal Singh Toor (Shot Put), Parul Chaudhary (5000m Steeplechase), Jyoti Yaraji (100m Hurdles), Priyanka (20km Run ) walk), Prachi and MR Poovamma (4x400m relay), Paramjit Singh Bisht, Akshdeep Singh and Vikas Singh (20km race walk), Ankita (5000m race), Rampal and Praveen Kumar (para-athletes in long jump).

India won 6 medals in Olympics and 29 medals in Paralympics Indian athletes have won 6 medals including a silver in the Olympic Games held in Paris. While India has won a total of 29 medals including 7 gold, 9 silver and 13 bronze in the Paralympic Games.
