High Court Judge's Controversial Comment, Supreme Court Seeks Answer: Bengaluru's Muslim Area Called Pakistan; HC bans live streaming recording

The Supreme Court has acted on two controversial statements made by the judge of the Karnataka High Court during the hearing on Friday. CJI DY Chandrachud has directed the Registrar General of the Karnataka High Court to submit a report within 2 weeks on the remarks of Justice Vedavyasachar Sreeshananda.

The CJI has also sought the assistance of Attorney General (AG) R Venkataramani and Solicitor General (SG) Tushar Mehta in this matter. The court also said that some basic guidelines can be issued.

Here, the Karnataka High Court has warned against misuse of live streaming of proceedings after a video clip went viral. The disclaimer states that no action will be recorded.

Justice Sreeshanand was appointed as Additional Judge of Karnataka High Court on May 4, 2020. He became a permanent judge on 25 September.

Justice Sreeshanand also made objectionable remarks on the woman lawyer

Two videos of Justice Sreeshanand have gone viral on social media. In a video, he was seen calling a Muslim area of West Bengaluru as Pakistan. In another video, he is seen scolding a woman lawyer. Justice Sreeshanand told the woman lawyer that he knows a lot about the other side. Maybe next time they will also reveal the color of her undergarment.

Henceforth permission is required to record live streaming of Karnataka High Court

A day after the YouTube channel's video clip went viral, the Karnataka High Court issued a disclaimer half an hour before it began live streaming its court proceedings. This prohibits video recording without permission. Legal action will be taken against violators of the order.
