American auto maker Ford Motor has decided to restart car manufacturing in India. The company will manufacture the car at its Chennai manufacturing plant. Cars manufactured here will only be exported to the global market, but not sold in India. Ford Motor has given this information by issuing a statement. The company said in its statement that the company currently employs 12,000 people in Tamil Nadu. This number is expected to increase by another 2,500 to 3,000 over the next three years. The company also has an engine unit in Sanand, Gujarat, which is home to Ford's second largest salaried workforce worldwide. Ford continues to provide customer support to its over 1 million customers in the country, including car service, parts and warranty related services. Only cars will be exported from here. The company closed its manufacturing operations in India about 3 years ago. A Letter of Intent (LOI) has now been signed with the Government of Tamil Nadu to start operations at the Chennai plant. From this plant, vehicles will be manufactured for export to global markets under the company's Ford+ growth plan. Ford International Markets Group President Kay Hart said, 'We are grateful for the support we are getting from the Government of Tamil Nadu as we explore various options for the Chennai plant.' Chief Minister MK Stalin welcomed the letter of intent with heart was signed by Chief Minister MK Stalin. He welcomed Ford on his return to Tamil Nadu. In a post on social media X, he said, 'We have revived Ford's three-decade-old partnership with Tamil Nadu.' Tata Motors buys Ford's Sanand plant In January last year, Tata Motors acquired Ford's Sanand plant in Gujarat to boost its EV production. In 2021, Ford announced the shutdown of operations in India amid losses and a slowdown in passenger vehicle sales during the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2018, the number of customers touched 1 million. Ford entered India in 1995 in partnership with Mahindra. At that time the name of the company was Mahindra Ford India Limited (MFIL). Ford India touched the one million (one million) customer mark in July 2018. Anurag Mehrotra, President and Managing Director of the company then said that we are proud to reach one million customers in India. We owe it to our customers for their trust.
