A Russian MI-8T helicopter has gone missing mid-flight. It is suspected to have been a victim of an accident. A total of 22 people, including three crew members, were on board the helicopter at the time it went missing. Russia's air transport agency said the helicopter had flown to Nikolaevka, 25 km from the site near the Vachkazets volcano in the Kamchatka region, according to the Interfax news agency. The IRA quoted sources as saying the helicopter had crashed in a lake. It was carrying passengers to Moscow and St. Petersburg. The helicopter is being searched for. The helicopter was supposed to return to base at 9.30 am IST but did not return. Attempts were made to contact a crew member but no contact was made. Rescuers have started searching for the missing helicopter. Another airline has been dispatched to search for the helicopter.
