Jai Shah, first Gujarati to become ICC chairman: Elected unopposed, takes charge from December 1; Now the post of BCCI secretary has to leave

Jay Shah has become the new president of the International Cricket Council (ICC). The ICC said that Shah was elected unopposed as the chairman. He will take over as ICC President on December 1. He is currently the Secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). Now he has to leave the post of BCCI secretary and make a new posting on this post. Barclay's tenure to end on November 30 The tenure of New Zealand's current ICC president, Greg Barclay, will end on November 30. The ICC said on August 20 that Barclay would not seek a third term as chairman. He was on this post since 2020. He will step down in November. Shah was the only candidate to file nominations for the post of ICC president as the last date was today. Apart from Jai Shah, no other candidate filed for the post, due to which Shah was elected unopposed as the President of the ICC. Shah is also currently the Chairman of ICC's Finance and Commerce Sub-Committee. Shah said- Thank you for electing me as the President Jay Shah said, “Thank you to everyone for electing me as the ICC President. I will continue to work for the advancement of cricket at the global level. It is important to promote multiple formats of cricket now. I am trying to bring in new technology. Along with the game, I will also take events like the World Cup to global markets.” Jai Shah will be the 5th Indian Chief of ICC Jai Shah has held the post of 4 Indian ICC Chiefs before. Jagmohan Dalmiya was the ICC President from 1997 to 2000, Sharad Pawar from 2000 to 2012, N. Srinivasan from 2014 to 2015 and Shashank Manohar from 2015 to 2020. Before 2015, the ICC Chief was called the President. Now called Chairman. Jai Shah will become the fifth Indian to become the ICC president when he takes over on December 1. The 35-year-old Shah will also become the youngest ICC president.
